Happy air filter :-)
I wasn't exactly sure where this would fit and this was I guess the closest related thing to it. This thread is dedicated to those who feel that air filter types don't effect gas mileage.
My cobalt gets crazy good gas mileage... partly because that's what it was made for and partly because I drive like a grandma in order to ensure great gas mileage. When I first got the car, it would average between 33 and 34 mpg only a regular basis. I was thrilled because it's one of the main reasons I got it. Then a few months later I bought a GMPP intake. When I got the intake I was excited for a lil bottom end (I don't even want to say grunt bc the car is so slow, but you get the point), and for a few points higher gas mileage. I was a little disappointed when I saw the filter that came with the intake. I was expecting a conical (spelling?) k&n style filter but instead I recieved a conical paper filter. But I though, oh well, shouldnt make that big of a difference anyway. I was wrong...
The first week or so the car drove a little different (to be expected, the car's computer is adjusting to the different intake), but once that little period was over, I was getting 30-32mpg. I was a little dissappointed but though maybe I was harder on it than usual so I did it a few more times, this time knowingly driving ridiculously gas efficeint. So one day when I worked at the shop I saw how much I could get a K&n filter for and it was like $20 for the size I needed so I said hell yeah.
The filter came the next day and again for the first week or so the car felt a lil different because the computer was adjusting (made a weird hummin noise too). But once that went away I was back to my mpg tests and I couldn't have been happier. It now gets the most consistent 35.6mpg. So I've always been a fan of the whole k&n filter bit but now I am even moreso and if any of you guys are pissed about the gas ad don't have one... get one. That's all, just thought I'd share.
