1.5 million for it? No thank you.
But it is neat.
Although I think the seller is wrong, the Banshee didn't really influence the 'Vette, kinda the other way around. Mako Shark concept.

That's quite the price tag.

This was the car that proved (firebird) Pontiac was really the first conceived muscle car even before the GTO. It was made in 63' as a 1964 to rival the corvette in sales but with the T-bird sales dropping and a customer base saying they wanted more then two seats, the idea was semi-scrapped. if you look at a lot of the hues you will notice real similar tail lights to the 1967 Firebird, the pop up headlights that were revived in 1982. Similar gauges, layout, and toying with the idea of a removable top for a car other then the Vette (which became the T-top in F-bodies). This car has more history then roughly any other GM prototype because it was the OG of its time which had GM see that there was a sport car market and fan base, so they pumped up the Lemans to make a GTO and he rest is history.

I'm kind of surprised this didn't end up on Barret-Jackson rather than eBay.

I was thinking the same thing. I was watching it last night. Anything that sells for over1/2 mil they get an automatic 25% cut though, so I can't blame him for trying on his own.

It is an amazing car though...

I'm telling you, the Banshee was inspired by the 1961 Corvette Mako Shark concept.

It's a nice car and all, but where the seller says "It inspired the design for the Corvette" is wrong, the Mako Shark concepts are what inspired the Vette design. The Banshee is cool though.

Jon, it's possible but there's no literature I've found to support that claim. You'd have to speak with the designers directly and unfortunately they're not available to interview. I'm sure they all influenced each other in some small way or another.

Yeah but which seems more plausible Bob, a one-off concept inspiring the Corvette, or a Corvette show car that incorporates similar design cues. I do believe the Banshee inspired some of the stuff on the Mako Shark II concept, which was IMO the direct spawning point of the C3.
EDIT: Bob, you're right, the only way we'll ever know for sure is if we ask the designers, but IMO it makes more sense that the Banshee was inspired, at least in part, by the Mako Shark concept, and then the design of the Banshee inspired, at least in part, the Mako Shark II concept. It's just that I have a hard time believing that Pontiac made a concept that Chevy decided to steal and leave evidence of
